The 1782 Club was founded in 1844 by Repeal Movement activists, including Thomas Francis Meagher, William Smith O'Brien and Thomas Davis. Daniel O'Connell became its president. Members attended public meetings and festivals in dark green uniform trimmed with gold lace and these gilt buttons.
